The Young Couple (2025) is a diptych by Karolina Dema made on the occasion of her brother’s wedding.
Art history reference
The composition of The Young Couple refers to Piero della Francesca’s iconic Duke and Duchess of Urbino (1473-1475), displayed at the Uffizi Galleries in Florence.
Storytelling through portraiture
With this double portrait, Karolina continues her exploration of the portrait as storytelling. Different elements refer to the couple’s interest in car racing, from the checkered patterns on the bride’s outfit to the cars in the background. The landscape of fields and trees is typical of Silesia, the region where they live in Poland.
