Presidents Trump (US) and Zelenskyy (Ukraine) in a conversation at the Vatican, moments before attending the funeral of Pope Francis on Saturday 25 April 2025.

What drew me to this image: the theatricality (that floor! the ceiling height!) and the simplicity of the scene (2 chairs face to face in an empty space). A more humane moment than their previous meeting at the White House 2 months ago, on February 28th 2025.

Subconscious influences for this drawing:
- Mequitta Ahuja (b. 1956) and her Italy drawings (2014), a magnificent series where the artist represented herself in the midst of Italian palazzos rendered as theatre sets, with intricately decorated floors and walls.

Les présidents Trump (États-Unis) et Zelensky (Ukraine) en conversation au Vatican, quelques instants avant d'assister aux funérailles du pape François, le samedi 25 avril 2025.

Ce qui m'a attiré dans cette image : la théâtralité (ce sol ! la hauteur du plafond !) et la simplicité de la scène (2 chaises face à face dans un espace vide). Un moment plus humain que leur précédent échange à la Maison Blanche il y a 2 mois, le 28 février 2025.

Influences a posteriori pour ce dessin :
- Mequitta Ahuja (1976) et ses dessins d'Italie (2014), magnifique série où l'artiste s'est représentée au milieu de palazzos italiens comme des décors de théâtre, avec des sols et des murs rendus avec couleur et musicalité. A voir ici:
